Q: Does it hurt?
While Invisalign moves your teeth without the pain and anxiety of metal braces, some people will experience temporary discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment i.e. when you start wearing your next set of braces. This is normal and typically described as a feeling of pressure. It's also a sign that Invisalign is working, as it moves your teeth to their final destination. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days.
Q: Will it affect my speech?
Similar to other orthodontic treatments, Invisalign aligners may temporarily affect the speech of some people, and you may have a slight lisp for a day or two. However, as your tongue gets used to having aligners in your mouth, any lisp caused by the aligners should disappear.
Q: Can I eat, drink and chew gum with it?
Invisalign is removable, allowing you to eat all the great foods without any restrictions or discomfort. It is important to remove your aligners before consuming meals, snacks and beverages to prevent damaging the aligners.
Q: Are there any food restrictions on the foods I can eat while having the treatment?
No, you can eat and drink whatever you want as long as you remove your aligners and brush your teeth after each meal.
Q: How old is the Invisalign product?
Invisalign technology has transformed orthodontics over the last X years. World-wide, over 1 million people have used Invisalign clear braces to straighten their teeth. Our Platinum Elite Dentist Dr Tapesh Anand has successfully treated over 4,000 smiles with Invisalign!
Q: Can I smoke with the aligners?
Yes, you can smoke while wearing aligners. However, you really shouldn't smoke at all as it damages your oral health, stains your teeth, increases risk of gum disease and is a cause of bad breath.
Q: Can I whiten my teeth while having Invisalign?
In most cases, it is advisable to have teeth whitening treatments in the final stages or after your treatment has been completed.
Q: How long do I have to wear them?
Treatment time can vary depending on the severity of each individual. The range can be anywhere from 4 -22 months, the average being between 8-12 months.
Q: What happens if I lose or break a brace?
For Teen patients, we provide up to 6 individual replacement braces free of charge.

For Adult patients, replacement aligners are available at the manufacturer's fee.
Q: What are Invisalign Attachments?
Depending on the type of movements (i.e. rotational) required within your treatment, Attachments may be placed. Attachments are temporary tooth-coloured composites that may be fixed onto the front of your teeth to create a small dimple. This provides greater surface area for the retainers to grip onto and thus move your teeth into the required position with greater predictability of movement. When treatment is over, the attachments will be removed without any damage to your natural tooth.
Q: What is Invisalign Reproximation?
Reproximation involves removing contact points between teeth to allow teeth to be moved individually. Such reproximation would be clearly discussed in advanced so that you are aware of the process.
Q: How do I clean my aligners?
Remove them and brush them.
Q: How will it affect my daily life?
  • Virtually Invisible - the aligners are hardly noticeable. Most people, even close friends and family, will be surprised when you tell them you're wearing braces. You can be confident and less self-conscious!
  • Comfortable - unlike metal wires and brackets, the aligners are smooth and will not cause abrasion to your lips, gums and tongue.
  • Removable - remove your braces before eating/drinking so that you can fully enjoy your meals/snacks without any restrictions and discomfort.
  • Healthy - remove your braces so you can brush or floss your teeth and gums with ease and accuracy. This is important to prevent decay and gum disease.
  • Low Maintenance - spend less time in the dental chair because no metal wires or brackets need to be replaced. You will only need to visit Dr Tapesh Anand every 6-8 weeks. Your treatment will seamlessly fit with your lifestyle.
Q: When will I need to visit my dentist?
Approximately, every 6-8 weeks Dr Tapesh Anand will ensure that your treatment is progressing well, discuss your experiences, make any necessary adjustments and avoid any complications from arising.

At each appointment, you will be provided with 3-4 sets of braces. Every tray (brace) is worn for approximately two weeks at a time (unless otherwise specified by our dentist).
Q: Can I wear it playing sports?
Yes, the smooth surface and snug fit eliminates the likelihood of sports injuries, mouth ulcers and abrasion, so you can play sports or play an instrument without any challenge. Invisalign braces can be worn under your sports mouth guard, but is not a substitute.
Q: What is it made out of and is it safe?
Invisalign braces look similar to home teeth whitening trays. They are made of a thermoplastic resin.

The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have cleared and classified Invisalign as Class II medical devices since 1998.

They do not contain Bisphenol-A (BPA) or phthalate plasticizers. These aligners are made with USP Class VI medical grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resins. Tests have been conducted to determine the biocompatibility of these materials, and show that they are biocompatible and pass all applicable regulatory requirements and thresholds for human wear in the mouth.
Q: Can I have treatment during pregnancy?
The initial planning stages will involve taking an x-ray, therefore this should be done prior to the pregnancy. Invisalign braces are safe to wear during pregnancy, however it is important to discuss this with both Dr Anand and your GP for their advice.
Q: Can I have fillings during treatment?
Each aligner is made to precisely fit every fissure and curve of each tooth. Fillings will alter the shape of your natural tooth; therefore it is advisable to have a full dental examination prior to starting Invisalign treatment.

If you require fillings during your treatment, it is best that you contact Dr Anand prior to receiving any restorative treatment such as fillings, crowns, or sealants.

Q: What happens after treatment?
Orthodontic treatments can never guarantee a permanent, everlasting result. Teeth are generally attracted to their natural positions.

At the Q Clinic, most of our patients opt to wear retainers. Retainers are durable appliances which are used to hold the teeth in the newly corrected position. There are different types of retainers available including clear plastic ones.
Q: Do I still need to see my dentist during Invisalign treatment?
We advise patients to have regular dental check ups and hygiene visits during their Invisalign treatments. Prevention of decay and gum disease is essential to ensure a positive Invisalign experience.

If you need a dentist or hygienist during your Invisalign treatment, you can make an appointment with the Q Clinic. See our Fixed Fees and Offers page to learn about our special deals.
